Greenpeace participó este Jueves 26 de Enero de la manifestación convocada por las asambleas ciudadanas de Chilecito y Famatina frente a la Casa de Gobierno de la provincia en apoyo al reclamo anti minero.
Voluntarios, socios y activistas de la organización adhirieron al reclamo de las asambleas y de miles de ciudadanos que le exigen al gobernador Luis Beder Herrera que desista de llevar adelante el contrato firmado con la empresa canadiense Osisko Mining Corporation para la explotación minera del cerro Famatina. Los asambleístas, acompañados de organizaciones sociales, también reclamaron el urgente desprocesamiento de los vecinos que fueron imputados por reclamar de manera pacífica su legítimo derecho a un ambiente sano.
Greenpeace exige que el Gobernador cancele definitivamente el proyecto y dialogue con los vecinos. “Las actividades extractivas como la minería a cielo abierto, son parte del modelo de desarrollo que nuestro país promueve desde 2003. Ya fueron aprobados cientos de proyectos para extraer oro, plata y otros minerales de la cordillera y que dejan como resultao enormes pasivos ambientales”, señaló Gonzalo Strano, de la Unidad de Campañas de Greenpeace.
Ya en 2003 la organización ambientalista demandó al Gobierno Nacional la prohibición de la utilización de cianuro para la extracción de metales, por ser una sustancia contaminante y extremadamente peligrosa.
“Seguiremos difundiendo las actividades realizadas por las asambleas y ciudadanos de Famatina y Chilecito, así como otros casos vinculados a la lucha anti minera, que están saliendo a la luz cada vez con más fuerza en Argentina. Río Negro, Catamarca y San Juan son algunas de las provincias en donde sus habitantes rechazan esta actividad. Estamos alertas a la decisión del gobernador Beder Herrera porque no podemos permitir que se le dé la espalda a un reclamo legítimo de los ciudadanos porque ellos serán los afectados directos del proyecto”, finalizó Strano.
